I am a sinologist and historian of Chinese medicine, as well as a practitioner and teacher of Chinese herbal medicine who runs a clinical Chinese medicine practice in Berlin alongside working as a researcher at the Institute of Chinese Life Sciences at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Often attempting to make history and practice inform each other, my research has encompassed the history of Chinese gynecology, the Bencao gangmu, historical case studies, the Berlin collection of medical manuscripts, and interdisciplinary projects that integrated the historical practice of Chinese pharmacology with data-mining and modern biochemistry. Currently, my special interest lies in recipes of Chinese pharmacology, the implicit reasoning they transmit about the nature of the world, the body, and disease, and the insights they offer on the socio-cultural, intellectual, and economic world they were applied in.
