Prof. Dr. Paul U. Unschuld, M.P.H., He holds degrees in Pharmaceutical Science, Chinese and Political Studies, and Public Health. He began his academic career as a faculty member of the Departments of Behavioral Sciences and Public Health of the School of Hygiene and Public Health of Johns Hopkins Medicine. In 1984 he joined the faculty of the Medical School of Munich University where he acted as Director of the Institute for the History of Medicine from 1986 to 2006. Then he was supported by Horst-Goertz-Foundation to establish an Institute for Chinese Life Sciences at Charité-Universitaetsmedizin Berlin, of which he has been director ever since. His research and publications focus on the comparative history of ideas in European and Chinese Medicine and the philological translation and analysis of ancient Chinese medical texts.
